Your skin is your canvas, and how you prepare it before scar revision or paramedical tattooing can make a huge difference in your results. Think of this as your pre-treatment self-care routine, a way to give your skin the love it needs to heal beautifully and retain pigment evenly.
Step 1: Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Well-hydrated skin heals faster and accepts pigment more evenly. Drink plenty of water in the weeks leading up to your appointment and moisturize the area daily with a gentle, fragrance-free lotion. Avoid alcohol and caffeine for at least 24 hours before your appointment.
Step 2: Exfoliate Gently
Gentle exfoliation (1–2 times per week) can help smooth the surface of the skin and remove dead cells, creating an ideal canvas. Avoid harsh scrubs and opt for something gentle like a chemical exfoliant with lactic acid or enzyme-based products.
Step 3: Protect from the Sun
Sun damage makes skin more fragile and uneven, which can affect healing and pigment retention. Keep the area covered or use a broad-spectrum SPF if it’s exposed.
Step 4: Support Your Skin From Within
A nutrient-rich diet with plenty of protein, healthy fats, and vitamins C and E can help your body heal from the inside out. These nutrients support collagen production and skin repair.
Step 5: Pause Harsh Products
Retinoids, acids, and other strong treatments can make your skin more sensitive. Stop using these in the area at least 7–10 days before your appointment unless otherwise directed.
